A lot of the series are in pdf format which makes them really easy to access.

Also in the resources page you can access mp3s that Carolyn has recorded including True Beauty and What Does It Mean To Be A Woman.

He currently publishing a good series on the DNA of the church and has so far discussed faith and integrity. These are strong biblically based articles that are easy to digest – but yet challenging at the same time.

boys.jpgJoe is a pastor at the Reunion Church in Washington, and has been writing the blog for a couple of years now. He also often produces his own images for the website, I particularly love the one shown to the right of his sons.

There are plenty of other great articles in the archives if you have a dig around too.

With Christmas almost upon us you may be scouring the net trying to find the perfect Christmas themed graphics, clip art, or images for your website. But where do you go to find good quality Christmas related clip art when so many of the images are cheesy or badly designed?

Christmas trees flickrThe recent ‘Definitive guide to free Christian clip art’ post from this blog is a good starting point. However a lot of these may not have great Christmas clip art (or any at all) depending on their focus.

The websites shown below are the best places on the internet I could find for Christmas clip art. Stock Exchange and Flickr tend to be more aimed at the social aspect of Christmas whereas the other websites are more likely to have nativity images. This is not a definitive rule though and there is some cross over so you may want to browse through all of the websites!

  • Stock Exchange:5 out of 5
    With around 1,000 photos just related to Christmas you are likely to find what something you like here. The quality is also very high as all pictures are vetted before they are added to Stock Exchange.
  • Flickr: 3.5 out of 5
    There are 42,000 images tagged with Christmas, but the quality is not high as on Stock Exchange. Check out Skellie’s post to learn how to find the best pictures on Flickr.
  • ChristArt: 3 out of 5
    This is a great site, although there are only 22 Christmas images. They are good quality though and include the first image on this post.
  • Pick and Print Gallery: 3 out of 5
    This website has some good hand drawn clip art. Scroll down the sidebar to find the various Christmas sections.
  • Gospel Gifs: 3 out of 5
    There is a whole page of Christmas clip art on this website which makes it easy to browse. I particularly like the star and manger clip art which comes in a variety of colours.

]]> vom.jpgFor anyone who hosts a blog on WordPress, Butler Blog have updated their useful bible verse plugin called Verse-O-Matic.

The basic premise of Verse-O-Matic is that it allows you to display a random verse in your blog or website. You have to add the verses you want rather than them being provided already, with just four examples included in the download.

Ease of use

Verse-O-Matic is very easy to install by simply uploading the relevant folder into your plugin folder and activating it. You can then put the code on your blog to display the code. There are good instructions on the Verse-O-Matic page as well to help should you need it. There is a also a sidebar widget included if you mange your sidebars with this method.

The set-up page within your WordPress is well laid out and intuitive to use.

What does it look like?

It is a very simple design and just displays the text. You can have a look at it on Butler Blog. Of course, you can easily use CSS to change the way the verse is displayed. You can decide to just have the verse, or to link to various other translations via Bible Gateway.

Other features and usage

Verse-O-Matic displays a single random scripture verse from the list that you manage on the WordPress ‘manage’ page. You can choose from showing a random verse each time a page is loaded, a randomly selected verse-of-the-day, a specifically chosen verse each day, or a single static verse that won’t change until you change it.

Each verse can also be linked to anything you want. You could choose a specific verse in a specific translation, a set of verses, or even an online tract or blog post.

Summary

This is a fantastic WordPress plugin if you want to show random verse on your blog.

It is written by Justin Taylor from Illinois who has been blogging since the end of 2004. One of the great things about this blog is that it highlights what else is going on in the Christian blogosphere. Justin has a good level of discernment for choosing which posts to recommend which means you are only getting the best from what is available on the internet. ]]> dontwasteyourlife.jpgThe Don’t Waste Your Life website/blog from Desiring God has recently been given an uplift. It is targeted to younger people (in their 20s) but would appeal to other people too. The inspiration for the site has come from John Piper’s book of the same name. You can read this well received and challenging book free online at the Desiring God website.

A key part of the blog is the video podcasts, which are published on the website, YouTube and itunes. This includes interviews, and mini-sermons from John Piper. They are 1-3 minute videos that combine images and gospel in a way that magnifies Christ and motivates you to not waste your life. New episodes are posted every 1 or 2 weeks. Recently there was a three part interview with the band Mainstay, and you can see the first one below:

You can also join the facebook group which is very active if you are so inclined. It would be great if there were more blog posts on the website, but it seems to be more set up to support the distribution of the free videos. This is not a bad thing though and if you have a spare few minutes it is worth watching a couple, especially if you feel you are wasting your life…

A large part of Challies.com comprises book reviews and comments, or other literature related topics (e.g. his recent post “Reading better with Richard Baxter”).

Tim’s book reviews are both concise and clear. He doesn’t fall in to the trap of many reviewers by writing a mini-book in itself for a review! Also, his writing style is good, and more importantly he seems a thoroughly grounded Christian.

If you want to know more about Tim, he gives the following quote about himself in the biography of on of his books:

Tim Challies is a leading evangelical blogger and editor of Discerning Reader (www.discerningreader.com), a site dedicated to discerning reviews of books that are of interest to Christians. ]]> Adrian Warnock is well quoted around the world of Christian blogs. He was one of the first bloggers I stumbled across, though this was more to do with the fact that one of my sisters goes to his church so I knew his name!

He has interviewed several “well known” Chrisitians as well including Josh Harris, CJ Mahaney, Wayne Grudem and Sam Storms. He also enjoys writing book reviews, which tend to be concise and clear rather than verbose reviews that are almost as long as the books themselves! As well as this, he writes his own thoughts making this blog a great source of new content, on top of the other good stuff he has seen blogged elsewhere.
