Rich Tatum from Blog Rodent has confirmed that Bible Gateway will be purchased by Zondervan. You can read all the details at Rich’s website, but this is great news for those who regularly use Bible Gateway.
Who knows, maybe Bible Gateway will get even better over the coming years?

Gospel Communications currently provide Bible Gateway, so it is sad to see this happening. However, hopefully someone else will purchase Bible Gateway to allow it to continue spreading the gospel and helping Christians study the word of God.

Former coworkers of mine have related that some Bible Societies (likely the International Bible Society, copyright holder for the NIV and TNIV) have been bidding to purchase the Bible Gateway to keep it alive in one form or another. There will likely be big news to announce on this front in the next few weeks when the secret corporate handshakes are all done.

Bible Gateway Search Google Gadget

Trey Meier at the TWKM blog has written a great gadget/widget to add the ability to directly search bible verses from Bible Gateway from either iGoogle or you own website or blog.
It works by presenting you with a search box where you tap in the verse you want to read, and the widget then automatically opens us Bible Gateway with the verse that you have requested. You can choose from a multitude of translations (including NIV, ESV, KJV, and many more) and the widget has alos been translated into French and Spanish. For those not aware, iGoogle is the personalized home page that you can get with google. It is a great base for a home page and includes widgets for various things from emails to the weather. You can add it to iGoogle by clicking on the “+ Google” button that is on the widget at the end of this review.
If you are adding it to your own website there a lots of options for adjusting the colors, size and some of the text of the widget to ensure it looks professional. The version below is just the default version, which is similar in style to the iGoogle version also.

Bible Gateway have recently announced some improvements to the searching capabilities of their online bibles. Bible Gateway is fantastic online bible study tool which has been reviewed at free Christian resources already, and it is great to see them continue to improve the product.
The new improvement sees and searches now return the results from gospel.com. I have not reviewed gospel.com yet and it is relatively new having been launched at the end of last year. It is a great concept though, here is how they explain themselves:
It’s a place where content from the hundreds of Christian ministries in the Community can organized their content. The goal is to make the resources of the Community–online articles, music, podcasts, Bible studies, devotionals, and much more–as easy for you to find as possible.
It is well presented and easy to use. I think this will really add to the benefits of using Bible Gateway.

This is the first of a three part review of the year for free Christian resources. May and June were undoubtedly exciting months, with the blog launching at the end of May. It was quickly moved from the WordPress.com platform onto a self hosted WordPress set-up. As I settled into blogging, I was able to review some fantastic Christian websites including:
eSword
Without doubt eSword is one of the best free Christian resources you can get on the internet. It is a high quality piece of software (PC only) that really helps studying the bible.
Bible Gateway
Whilst eSword requires a download, Bible Gateway is a good online bible study tool. It is simple to use, and also has lots of extras that allow you to easily link from your website to the verses on their website.
Christ Art
Christ Art is probably the best Christian website with free clip art. There are lots of images and they are generally of a very high quality. They had one particularly good Christmas clip-art that I have recently shown on the ‘Where to find the best free Christmas clip art’ post.
Christian Classics Ethereal Library
Christian Classics Ethereal Library has more classic Christian books available online than you can shake a stick at. With so many books have been written over the last two thousand years this is a real treasure trove of rich, uplifting and challenging books.
