While we are called to serve others, even Jesus did not try to meet everybody’s needs.

You’re a totally forgiven, fully accepted, deeply loved… child of God

Your identity has great value not only to you, but also to the thief who wants your name and credit card to run up a stack of bills. Some of us will go to great lengths to try and gain an identity we think will make us more acceptable to a certain group; like wearing designer clothes or driving a certain car. Some think it’s in their looks and opt for plastic surgery. Some identify themselves by their profession or trade.

Create in me a clean heart, O God

We think of the heart as the centre of our emotions. But it is more; it is the origin of our desires, imaginations, motives and intentions. That is why God says, ‘Above all… guard your heart…it is the well-spring of life.’

If you think you are solely responsible for your success, think again.

Each day when you wake up, be like the lady who said, ‘It is a good thing God’s mercy is new every morning because I used up all of yesterday’s supply!’ Webster’s Dictionary defines mercy as ‘tenderness of heart that disposes a person to overlook injuries or to treat an offender better than he deserves.’ That is a picture of God’s mercy toward you!

Your life’s greatest impact doesn’t come from what you own, but from what you are. Jesus said, ‘”Each tree is recognized by its own fruit…The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart…”‘ (Luke 6:44-45 NIV).

Each week, I am going to put a classic article from The Word for Today publication on the site. It is a a daily devotional, but by going back in to the archives and picking one a week we will get some really rich, but easily digestible wisdom!

This is a good quality daily devotional, and unlike some of the older great devotionals (e.g. My Utmost for his Highest) you know it will be a new message each day of your life. Perhaps not as theologically strong or deep as Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening, it is nonetheless regularly challenging and easy to understand.
