Three months after the launch of free Christian resources I began to put a lot of effort into finding and tweaking the theme/design that I wanted. Finally, as the year almost closes I think I am generally happy with the look of the website! There were so many superb websites reviewed over the three months ending in September, but here are the pick of the posts:
Desiring God
Desiring God is without a doubt one of the finest Christian websites on the internet. John Piper has put all of his sermons and books from the last twenty five years online for free. Not only that but they are high quality products, and the website is superbly designed.
Free Hillsong mp3
Throughout the course of the year many fantastic free and legal songs have been recommended. This is up there as one of the best.
My first sermon
I had the nerve-racking experience of doing my first sermon in August. In this post I explained the free things that I found the most useful to help me prepare.
I mentioned last week what had helped me most with my first sermon, after a small delay the preach on loving your enemies is now available online.
Recommending it for listening is not bombastic pride, but I have struggled to find preaches to suggest for the weekly sermon section lately. Not due to a lack of quality, but I have lost my iPod lead so I can’t listen to any podcasts on the way to work at the moment! I hope to rectify this situation soon…
Following the lead of Desiring God, Sovereign Grace Ministries have made all of their mp3 sermons available free for download! Sovereign Grace are non-denominational and prefer to think of themselves as a family of Churches passionate about the gospel of Jesus Christ. This passion comes through in their sermons.
The exciting thing about this news is there are some really anointed preachers from Wayne Grudem’s style of teaching to C.J.Mahaney’s humorous and touching preaches. Some of the better known preachers included are:
- Mark Altogge
- Wayne Grudem
- Joshua Harris
- C.J.Mahaney
- John Piper
- Terry Virgo
what really helped me the most was God!
Of course, what really helped me the most was God! Without His help and guidance it would have been a dull and pitiful preach. And secondly, my pastor’s guidance and feedback was vital. Assuming that these are a given though, what else did I find the most useful? When I had got the basic framework of what God wanted me to bring what helped me to pull it together?

There has been another collection of sermons added to the Desiring God website. According to the Desiring God Blog, “Every two years John Piper completes a rotation of weekend seminars on different aspects of Christian doctrine and practice.”
These seminars added include the following areas:
- Biblical Eldership
Newfrontiers is a worldwide family of churches numbering around 500 churches in over 40 nations around the world. In fact the church I attend is a member of Newfrontiers, and having only been a member of one church it is obviously a group of churches that I love. The mission of Newfrontiers is as follows:
“With a passionate commitment to build the church according to New Testament principles, we believe that the most effective form of evangelism is worked out from strong local churches.”
Just a couple of week ago there was the annual “leaders” training in Brighton (UK) which I was fortunate enough to attend some of. This is leaders in a broad sense, so for instance it would include small group leaders and worship leaders. It is certainly not just for the actual top dogs in the churches. Because it is a global church many people obviously cannot attend, and therefore all of the sermons are made available on the internet. There is a few other bits and bobs on the website as well:
I recently reviewed the Desiring God website, but since then they’ve added yet more content! They have now created two YouTube accounts and are beginning to post short clips. As it is new, there is not loads of videos to look at, however I was impressed by the quality. You can see one of the videos below:
The two accounts they have set up are ‘Desiring God Conferences’ and ‘Desiring God Don’t Waste Your Life’. The first is focused on an upcoming conference, whilst the second will be updated every week or other week and have small gospel based videos to help you not waste your life!
Miss the preach on Sunday, or just want more spiritual nourishment?
This is part of a new weekly content for the site where I will recommend free sermons that can be downloaded via mp3, or via podcast. For those of you that have busy schedules this will let you cherry pick the best ones!

As I recently suggested the Holy Trinity Brompton sermons as a good place to look, I will pick one of theirs first.
