One of the best (and perhaps most humbling!) of ways to improve your sermons is to get someone who you respect to give you feedback.
If you want really good feebback it is ggod to have a selection of preset questions they rate you on to highlight any areas you may need to work on.
Here is the form that Mars Hill use to evaluate their sermons, as posted by Scott Thomas.
What do you think of the areas covered? Would you add anything, or do you have your own lists that you use?
Sovereign Grace have made available the audio recordings from the main sessions of the Worship God 2009 conference. It includes speakers such as CJ Mahaney, John Piper, and Thabiti Anyabwile and is bound to be useful for anyone involved in worship or leadership at church.
Below are links to the recordings, or alliteratively you can go the main download page which also includes links to the previous Worship God 09 conferences
There is a glut of free sermons online, which is awesome, but Faith Promise Church are now providing video sermons with American sign language. This is a really exciting offering, and one which hopefully more larger churches will embrace (providing video sermons isn’t easy or cheap!). Apparently there are 2m Deaf people in the US, of which 93% are unchurched.
Here is the little teaser/trailer of the new ASL interpretation:
Anyone that is married no doubt wants to improve their marriage, no matter how good it may be. NewSpring Church have recently done a mini-series called I Want a New Marriage, which aims to help people grow closer together in their marriages.
All of the sermons have audio, video and a group study guide available, just visit the I Want a New Marriage page and download away!
- Forgive & Live – Perry Noble
- What’s Got to Happen for a Marriage to Work? – Perry Noble
- What I Said Yes To – Perry Noble
- From This Moment – Perry Noble
Last week my family was fortunate enough to attend the Newfrontiers Together on a Mission Conference. We had an awesome time and not just because my mother in law kept us all well fed! The conference is focused to those in any form of leadership (or serving) in church whether that be a small group leader, a pastor, or any other area you care to come up with.
One talk I think every Christian would benefit from listening to is Joel Virgo’s talk on the Armor Bearer (Main Session 7). It was an inspiring message on covering the back of your church leader/pastor, and what can be achieved by working together for Jesus. It is one of those messages I think I’ll need to listen to every year!
Pretty much all of the audio is now uploaded, with video downloads coming soon too.
Ed Stetzer has highlighted a superb free resource for churches. The SBC Executive Committee are providing free copies of Financial Freedom for churches. The series is aimed at helping members of the church be better stewards of their (God’s) money and finances.
It is a relatively comprehensive selection of resources, and they will post one to each Church that requests. It includes sermon videos, notes, power pint slides and bible study lessons. Here are the four broad topics covered:
- Week One: God’s Ownership
- Week Two: Debt’s Dangers
- Week Three: Greed’s Antidote
- Week Four: God’s Purpose – Money & Work
The Advance 2009 conference was hosted at the beginning of June by Desiring God ministries and the audio is now available. There was a mixture of preachers including John Piper, Eric Mason, Mark Driscoll, Tyler Jones and Bryan Chandler
If you aren’t sure what exactly Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses believe then The Theology Program has a good selection of teaching resources available on iTunes. There are 8 sessions available in all covering:
- Are Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses Christian?
- What is the Mormon view of the Scripture?
- History of Joseph Smith
- What about the New World Translation?
- Why do Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that celebrating birthdays are wrong?
- Why don’t either believe in the Trinity?
- How are Christians to understand these beliefs?
