weekly devotion-become a better thinker

‘BE DILIGENT IN THESE MATTERS…’ 1 TIMOTHY 4:15

No matter what you have been called to do, always keep asking, ‘Is there a better way?’ In other words, become a better thinker! ‘How do I do that?’ you ask. By becoming intentional about the thinking process, by making thinking a priority. Thinking is a discipline, so keep the following things in mind:

constantly expose yourself to good input

1) constantly expose yourself to good input!

Read good books, review magazines, listen to CD’s, and spend time with real thinkers. When something intrigues you, whether it is someone else’s idea or your own, keep it in your favourite ‘thinking place’ and allow it to stimulate you.

2) act on your thoughts!

Many ideas have a short shelf life. You must act on them before the expiry date. World War I flying ace, Eddie Rickenbacher, said, ‘I can give you a six-word formula for success: think things through – then follow through.’

3) repeat the process!

One good thought does not make a good life. There are too many one-hit wonders, one-book authors, one-message speakers, one-time inventors struggling to promote and protect a single idea. Enduring success belongs to those with a mountain of gold they continually mine, not to those who find one nugget and try to live off it for 50 years. It does not matter whether you are born rich or poor, have little education or a PhD, suffer from multiple disabilities or are a picture of health, you can learn to be a better thinker. All you have to do is be willing to engage in the process every day.
