Cyber Hymnal is a useful website with over 7,000 hymns from various denominations included. It is very easy to navigate around the thousands of hymns, and it is also continually being updated.

You can search for a hymn in several ways:

  • by the title (selecting the first letter and then choosing from a list)
  • by the topic (e.g. salvation, hope, faith)
  • by the scripture (pick the book and then the verse in the bible)

Alternatively you can search the whole website simply by using the standard search function.

When you find the hymn you are looking you are presented with the words, links to the author bio, related pictures and also details about the music. By default the song will play in midi format when you open the page, although this option can be turned off. There is also a link to the score of the song.

You can also search for the music separately (as many hymns utilize the same tunes)

There are pages for many composers and authors, although a little bit of work sill needs to be done to complete all of these. However, Cyber Hymnal is adding more and more content all of the time, last month about 50 new hymns were added.

There is also a really good bibliography page for additional resources on hymns.
