Our Daily Bread is a high quality modern daily devotional let down by limited availability.

Our Daily Bread is a modern daily devotion provided by RBC ministries. It is well known and respected and is available to be delivered free to people in USA and Canada. The devotions would not even take five minutes to read, and are generally of a high quality

At the bottom of each devotion it also gives a little quote that is related to the devotion just read. Finally, you also get the bibles verses that will allow you to read through the bible in one year. It is one of the simpler reading plans and simply starts at Genesis in January and ends at Revelation in December.

Getting the devotion

The easiest way to access the devotion is to go to the main page of the website each day.

You can also subscribe to the RSS feed. However, the feed does not give you the verse or even the full devotion text so it is relatively useless. If you own a pda or Pocket PC, you can also download Our Daily Bread directly to these each day. I don’t know if this suffers from the same problem as the RSS Feed.

You can listen to Our Daily Bread directly on the website via the main page, or even subscribe to the podcast. The podcast does sound like an automated voice (although I may be wrong!), but nonetheless this is a useful addition.

As far as I can tell, you cannot have it delivered elsewhere. There is also no email version that I could locate which is a shame as it really limits the number of people that can view it. It is possible it is buried somewhere in the website but I dug around for ages and couldn’t find it. Unfortunately that was compounded by the fact their contact form was not working so I could not ask them where it may be!

It does seem strange that such a well known devotion would not take the relatively easy steps to make the RSS feed fully functional, or create an emailable version. These oversights really limit the number of people that will benefit from Our Daily Bread.

  6. I didn’t find a “Subscribe Today” button on their website, but I did find a way to get their email version. You go to the bottom of the site (www.rbc.org) and click on eNewsletters, and sign up there. It’s kind of out of the way, it took forever for me to find.

  30. I have been receiving Our Daily Bread Daily Devotional since I was about 11 years old. I did stop for a long period, as I was given two other books. It was early in 2000 and something that some friends of mine opened a new Christian Fellowship in the area where we used to live here in Plymouth – Devon. I knew this couple before they were married and her late brother used to be my Sunday School teacher in the 1960’s. (I’m now 66 years old.) He invited me along to their over 55’s Lunch Club on a Thursday, and I started to attend on a regular basis including their week night Bible Study. I saw one Sunday, just one copy of ODB deveotional. On the Monday I contact the office, and ever since the staff have become known as Our Dearest Unseen Friends. My wife used to work late nights in our local fish & chip shop. They are still praying for us on a regular basis in the office, due to our poor healh problems. I am at present in a Care Home, due to an aputation lower limb right leg. We are deeply grateful to everyone at ODBM for their Christian love, valued prayers. Since Easter Sunday I have been leading a Sunday morning service here in the home. Used to be fortnightly, now every week. I have a lot of encouragement from the management and staff. The residents always expect me to sing a solo. Started with 8, now on average 14 – 24 at times. Four ladies squeezed my hand to thank me for a lovely service one Sunday. One Sunday I spoke on prayer, a man went passed me with tears in his eyes and thanked me for an enjoyable service. He had the need to go to his room to pray. May our Loving God bless everyone and keep you safe With Christian love, and greetings to you, from Dave Churchward and family.
